Completion of one of the programs found on the above sites is enough to begin working as technician for a licensed HVAC contractor. The certification process for actually going into business as a licensed HVAC contractor in Texas requires much more training, however. The technician first must have at least 48 months of practical experience working under the supervision of a licensed contractor. At that point, after paying the $115 fee, the technician may take the licensing exam.
