There are several useful resources listing schools in Houston which offer classes in HVAC technology. One is www.citytowninfo.com, a general source of all kinds of data on various locales. From the list of hot career links on the home page, click on the HVAC technician link. Then click on the link for Texas on the left-hand side to find the list of schools. Under each school, entry is a list of locations for the school's HVAC program, several of which include Houston. Completion of one of the programs found on the above sites is enough to begin working as technician for a licensed HVAC contractor. The certification process for actually going into business as a licensed HVAC contractor in Texas requires much more training, however. The technician first must have at least 48 months of practical experience working under the supervision of a licensed contractor. At that point, after paying the $115 fee, the technician may take the licensing exam.
